High Atlas Sock Class with Irene Waggener

In this class, you will learn how to make socks from any type of yarn using High Atlas sock-knitting techniques from Morocco. The socks are knit from the toe up and use both knitting in-the-round and knitting flat.

The techniques you will learn include:

• a unique way to start from the toe
• how to make the “new” sock heel
• how to make the “old” sock heel
• how to measure against your own foot

In order to participate, you should be able to knit and purl both in the round and flat, and you will need to complete the homework before class (a PDF with instructions will be sent after payment confirmation). First-time sock knitters are welcome to join. The workshop will be taught in English.

You will need to bring:

• 7, double-pointed needles w/ the same size (recommended size 2.0 - 3.75 mm)
• Approximately 300 meters of yarn (recommended types: sport, dk, worsted. Note: a thicker, dk or worsted type yarn will knit up faster for the class.)

Withdrawals/refunds: the registration fee will be refunded to students who for some reason cannot participate in the workshop and communicate their withdrawal up to ten days before the date of the workshop.
