Pratos Falantes
This book is the result of a collaboration between anthropologist Maria Manuela Restivo and interior designer and collector Felipa Almeida, in a project to compile examples of traditional Portuguese "Pratos Falantes" ("Speaking Plates") together with new commissioned works by contemporary artists.
Maria Manuela Restivo is an anthropologist, researcher and independent curator, developing work in the area of vernacular and popular artistic practices. Her PhD focuses on narratives around popular art in Portugal. She has worked as a consultant for various public and private entities, while developing texts, projects and exhibitions around vernacular artistic practices.
Felipa Almeida is a curator and art director with a background in Art History, Curatorial Studies, History of Design and Anthropology. Her work is focused on research about objects, material culture, traditions and history of art and crafts, and transposing them into tailor-made projects that celebrate Portuguese culture.
