Introduction to Portuguese-style crochet with Filipa Carneiro - 15 MAR
Teacher: Filipa Carneiro
Date: Saturday 15 March 2025 (10am-1pm)
Objectives: In this workshop you'll learn how to crochet in the Portuguese style: with the yarn around your neck, or through a knitting pin secured on your chest. This is a technique that has been almost entirely lost, but is much more comfortable as you're able to make stitches with just a slight movement of your thumb, and no repeated wrist strain. The movements are similar to Portuguese knitting, and the resulting gauge is very uniform. This workshop is taught in Portuguese, but the teacher can give instructions in English and/or Spanish.
Contents:
- how to set up the yarn and hold the hook in the Portuguese style;
- crochet chain stitch, single crochet stitch and double crochet stitch;
- crocheting a small sample, in open stitch and closed stitch.
- crocheting a flat circle.
Materials to be brought by students: mid-weight wool yarn in a light color, and a crochet hook of suitable size for the yarn. We recommend our Vovó.
Requirements: participants must be over 14 years old.
Withdrawals/refunds: the registration fee will be refunded to students who for some reason cannot participate in the workshop and communicate their withdrawal up to ten days before the workshop date.
Location: Rua Maria Andrade, 50A (Lisbon)
Please note: The workshop will only take place if a minimum of three people sign up to participate. In the event that we don’t reach minimum attendance of three participants until five days before the date of the workshop, the workshop will be cancelled and any participants who had signed up will be contacted for a refund, rescheduling (if possible) or shop voucher to be arranged. In the event that the workshop is cancelled by the tutor due to unforeseen circumstances, we will apply the same procedure: refund of the fee, exchange for a shop voucher or, should another workshop date already be booked, a rescheduling of the workshop.
