Overlay Mosaic Crochet with Ana Torradinhas - 19 OCT
Teacher: Ana Torradinhas (Ananim Atelier)
Date: Saturday, October 19th, 2024 (10am-1pm)
Workshop for people who already know classic crochet’s basics and want to learn a new technique. Overlay mosaic crochet is a crochet technique that, in its simplest form, allows the creation of coloured patterns without changing colours midrow, using only single and double crochets (US terms). As the stitches overlap, it creates a thick fabric, especially suited to make accessories such as bags and baskets or, as is the case for this workshop, mittens.
Goals:
In class, you will learn the necessary overlay mosaic crochet techniques to make a pair of fingerless mittens. These mittens are made in overlay mosaic crochet with 2 colours, in rounds, with a section in rows using the Continuous Overlay Mosaic method from Susan Lowman (to create the opening for the thumb). The mittens’ motif also uses diagonal double crochet stitches.
Contents:
- What is overlay mosaic crochet and how it works (reading a chart, construction, stitches and uses).
- Practical exercise with a fingerless mittens project.
What you need to know:
Having basic knowledge and ease with classic/traditional crochet or beginner skills in the overlay mosaic crochet technique. It’s essential to know the basic crochet stitches (chain, single crochet and double crochet)*.
*US terms
Materials and tools**:
You’ll need to bring a 3mm or 3.5mm crochet hook; 2 skeins of sport weight yarn or similar, in different colours (the yarn used for the projects was Vovó; you can find it here).
Optional (but recommended): stitch markers, pen/pencil and paper for note taking.
**The value for the workshop includes instructions in physical and digital format for 2 projects (fingerless mittens and ankle cuffs), with access to online video-tutorials of the techniques used, to make it easier to complete both projects after the workshop.
Requirements: Suitable for the general public over 14 years old. The workshop will be taught in Portuguese, but the tutor can give instructions and support in English if necessary.
Withdrawals/refunds: the registration fee will be refunded to students who for some reason cannot participate in the workshop and communicate their withdrawal up to ten days before the workshop date.
Note: The workshop will only take place if a minimum of four people sign up to participate. In the event that we don’t reach minimum attendance of four participants until five days before the date of the workshop, the workshop will be cancelled and any participants who had signed up will be contacted for a refund, rescheduling (if possible) or shop voucher to be arranged. If the workshop is cancelled by the tutor due to unforeseen circumstances, we will apply the same procedure: refund of the fee, exchange for a shop voucher or, should another workshop date already be booked, a rescheduling of the workshop.
Location: Rua Maria Andrade, 50A, Lisbon.
