Teacher: Gul E Raana (Wenlin Studio)

Date: Saturday 20 September 2025 (10am-2pm)

Objectives: In this class, you will make a guided motif of Phulkari, the folk embroidery of Punjab. Gul will share the traditional types of Phulkari embroideries and will demonstrate the traditional technique of making a Bagh Phulkari motif, with darning stitch, herringbone, and one-sided satin stitch on a naturally dyed hand-spun cotton base with cotton floss. Additionally, Gul will explore contemporary approaches and discuss how different thread counts affect the density of a pattern. By the end of the class, you will have the skills to create a Bagh Phulkari motif and apply this knowledge to craft larger, more intricate works.

This workshop is taught in English by Gul E Raana, originally from Punjab, Pakistan, and the founder of Wenlin Studio — a brand dedicated to embroideries and natural dyeing.
