Castelo Branco Embroidery Workshop - Level II - The bird - JUNE 21

Castelo Branco embroidery is a Portuguese traditional embroidery, represented in its famous quilts. The materials used and the characteristic motifs make it a unique and rich embroidery, easily distinguishable from other traditional Portuguese embroideries.

The aim of this workshop is for students to learn how to embroider a small element of this embroideries, the bird.

Programme Content:

• Castelo Branco stitch;
• Satin stitch;
• Feather stitch;
• Back stitch.

Aims: To embroider a bird using four basic Castelo Branco embroidery stitches: Castelo Branco stitch, satin stitch, feather stitch, back stitch. 

Requirements/skills: Previous attendance of Castelo Branco Embroidery - The Carnation workshop. Some experience in hand embroidery. This workshop is for ages 14 and up. The workshop is given in Portuguese but the trainer can give support/guidance in English. 

Materials: 

The workshop includes:

• support manual;
• hoop / frame;
• linen with the embroidery pattern;
• silk threads;
• embroidery needle no. 8.

Students don't need to bring any materials, but thimbles are recommended for those who are used to using them.

The following materials will also be available during the session: small scissors, stitch samples, embroidery, books and magazines.

Withdrawals/refunds: the registration fee will be refunded to students who for some reason cannot participate in the workshop and communicate their withdrawal up to ten days before the workshop date.

Note: The workshop will only take place if a minimum of four people sign up to participate. In the event that we don’t reach minimum attendance of four participants until five days before the date of the workshop, the workshop will be cancelled and any participants who had signed up will be contacted for a refund, rescheduling (if possible) or shop voucher to be arranged. If the workshop is cancelled by the tutor due to unforeseen circumstances, we will apply the same procedure: refund of the fee, exchange for a shop voucher or, should another workshop date already be booked, a rescheduling of the workshop.
