Vovó Natural is a special edition of our sport-weight Vovó yarn, dyed with natural dyes. Like the original Vovó base, Vovó Natural is a non-superwash 100% wool yarn, made exclusively from the wool of Portuguese sheep breed Campaniça, and dyed with natural plant pigments.
Vovó Natural is:
- a breed specific yarn
- made from native sheep's wool (Campaniça)
- sourced from extensive farming
- sourced from farmers who follow EU animal welfare regulations
- entirely sourced and produced in Portugal (minimal footprint)
- not bleached or chemically softened
- dyed with plant pigments through an OEKO-TEX certified process
The dyes used in this collection are obtained through extracts from all-natural sources:
- N01 - sappanwood
- N02 - indigo
- N03 - rubia tinctorum
- N04 - marigold
- N05 - acacia catechu
- N06 - pomegranate rind
- N07 - mulberry leaves
All shades are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, which ensures no harmful substances were used in the dyeing process.
Grown, scoured, milled and dyed in Portugal.

CARE NOTE: due to the nature of the dyes used in this collection, it is very important that you take extra care with Vovó Natural to minimise color bleeding and bleaching. Hand wash your knits in cool water using a gentle detergent, and dry flat out of direct sunlight. Do not use detergents containing sodium perborate, as these will bleach the natural dye. Store skeins of Vovó Natural away from direct sunlight.
As with all yarn dyed with indigo, contact transfer may occur with shade N02. Please refrain from wearing your N02 knitwear with other light-colored garments or handbags that may rub against, to avoid color transfer. If the indigo stains your hands while knitting, simply wash your hands with soap and warm water.
Please note some shade variation may occur between different batches of Vovó Natural, as is normal when using natural plant dyes.
